Article IV of the United States Constitution state in part:
"all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution..."
Every state requires that every state or local employee from governor, mayor, or Law Enforcement employee takes a solemn oath of office. Most of the sworn oaths will start with a phrase similar to:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of......"
Lately many states have been rewriting their oaths and leaving "the Constitution of the United States" out of their new and improved oaths of office. Officials in the states that are removing any reference to the United States Constitution somehow believe they are protecting themselves and their employees from retribution by the Federal Government, for failure to enforce Federal Laws and Statutes. At some point in time, if we are ever going to pull this country together as one nation, State and Local officials will have to be shown they are subject to the same Federal Laws and Statutes that every American citizen is subject to.
This one county sheriff understands his duty and has taken the oath required by our Constitution to support and defend the law that binds and holds this country together. Long ago the Civil War decided that States held certain rights but these rights did have certain limitations. Under our Constitution no State has the right to succeed from the Union and no State has the right to pass any law that will circumvent a Federal Law or Statute. Any judge will tell you being ignorant of the law is no excuse for breaking the law. Officials that are refusing to enforce Federal Laws by claiming it is not their responsibility are violating the Constitution they have sworn to uphold. As one nation we cannot endure different states deciding which Federal Law or portion of the United States Constitution they wish to abide by. With every election comes change with governors and mayors. Following or not following the Constitution at the whim of any particular governor or mayor cannot be allowed. Maybe the only solution for the chaos that is currently going on in America with the illegal immigration problem, is to elect more sheriffs like Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio.
